Dear Gwangju International Center Members,
Gwangju International Center (GIC) has managed to achieve a lot with the support of the local community and GIC members, overcoming challenges posed by pandemic and other difficulties over the past year.
For example, Gwangju International Community Week, created a wide platform for Gwangju residents with diverse cultural backgrounds to enjoy various cultures from all around the world in one place, while minimizing waste production. The 12th World Human Rights Cities Forum, co-hosted by Gwangju Metropolitan City, the UN Human Rights Office, and UNESCO, attracted nearly 2,000 participants including city officials and human rights experts from 154 cities of 64 countries with the goal of sharing information and discovering solutions to cope with the climate crisis. Furthermore, we conducted programs, such as the Global Community Support, to promote and expand cultural exchanges among diverse communities.
In the new year, the GIC will newly start several projects such as the World Trip to train the Future Global Leaders of Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education and the Culture Experience for Exchange Students’ of Chonnam National University, in addition to Making Friends@Gwangju and Partner Cities Youth Exchange Project.
Making the most of the talents of our coordinators and the trust of the local community, GIC will continue our efforts to be at the forefront of international solidarity and cooperation, while doing our best to foster Gwangju as an inclusive city through communication and sharing with diverse residents in Gwangju.
Wishing you more health and peace with your family in the New Year of Rabbits,
SHIN Gyonggu
Director
GIC will be closed on January 1st for New Year's Day.
Enjoy the Holiday!
