Audience Guide

1. About the May 18 Academy

The May 18 Academy is designed for young human rights defenders in the world. Since 2004, over 400 individuals from about 60 countries have participated in the program. This year, the Academy will be carried out online due to the Coronavirus pandemic under the theme – “The May 18 Spirit and Democracy”

2. Preparation-meeting

A meeting will be held prior to filming in the studio.

The May 18 Memorial Foundation will notify you of the meeting details.

3. Please prepare the below before attending filming:

(1)  Questions (3~4)

We will send you a summarized lecture script 2~3 days beforehand.

(2) Please note,

Lecture types differ by lecturers.

For example,

1) Some will allow questions during the lecture.

2) Some will have a Q&A session after the lecture.

On the rehearsal date, we will let you know of the lecturer type.

4. Performance fees

1) 120,000 KRW per lecture (Tax included, remittance will be made after a tax deduction.)

2) There will be NO extra payments other than the above. Meals and transportation are on you.

3) Remittance will be made 3~4 days after filming.

5. Filming Location

1) Gwangju Foreign Language Network (광주영어방송) ‘Annex Building Studio’ (별관 스튜디오)

Address: 17 Sajik-ro, Namu-gu, Gwangju

2) If you enter the parking lot, you will see a one-storey building in the front.

6. Filming Schedules

1) Mornign Filming : 9 a.m. to Noon

① Arrival time: Before 9 a.m. (We will put on makeup in the order of arrival.)

② Rehearsal: From 9:30 a.m. to 9:50 a.m.

③ Filming: From 10 a.m. to Noon

2) Lunch

Please be on your own schedule and return to the studio on the time requested.

We can guide you to suitable restaurants, if requested.

3) Afternoon filming: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

① Arrival time: Before 1 p.m. (We will put on makeup in the order of arrival.)

② Rehearsal: From 1:30 p.m. to 1:50 p.m.

③ Filming: From 2 p.m. ~ (One hour or so duration is expected)

4)  Filming Date

- September 21: Both morning and afternoon

- September 28: Afternoon only (Not confirmed)

- October 5: Afternoon only
