On May 29 2009, the U Square Cultural Center had its grand opening. The cultural center includes KumHo Art Hall, noticeable for its impressive top-of-the-notch concert hall, DongSan Art Hall, in which the audience and the actor/actresses can take a step closer to each other, KumHo Gallery, by which the cultural center aims to excavate new talents, and the first ever IMAX theatre to be established in Korea.
AISFF Film Festival

Eighteen short films that previously have been shown at the ‘Asiana International Short Film Festival’ have revisited the city of GwangJu for three days at the end of July. The films, from numerous different nations including Britain, Australia, Iceland, Canada, Spain, France, Germany, Mexico, and Czech, are well known for being the trend leaders of 2009 short film.
The scent of sweet Home
Time: July 21-August 31
Location: U Square KumHo Gallery
This exhibition aspires to conjure a sense of reminiscence among the audience as well as to incorporate the spirit of the unique southern Korean painting style. The pieces in the gallery serve as testimonies to what the great masters have cultivated throughout the years in attempts to assimilate nature and emotion into modern art. The featured artists in the exhibition are the follow: BongGyu Kang, an artist whose ultimate goal is to be able to think and communicate solely through photographs, a realist sculptor YeonGyu Kang, HengShin Kim, an impressionist artist, and others who furthered the furthered NamDo’s image as the home of art and culture.
You may reach the U-Square Cultural Center via the inner city bus. The bus numbers include 01, 09, 36, 48, 47, 38, 1187, 518, and others. These buses stop at the opposite side of the culture center. If you wish to reach the center by foot, look for the ShinSeGae Department Store.
